SNUG Committees
Selective Enrollment Information Committee
- Provide information on the admissions process for CPS selective enrollment Academic Centers and High Schools, including requirements and deadlines .
- Host forums as needed to provide additional information and support about the school selection process for parents and students .
Curriculum Research and Support
- Research and report on curriculum at selective enrollment Academic Centers and High Schools.
- Research and report on the the practicality and availability of supplemental curriculum options for teachers, parents and students, i.e. field trip options, internship ideas, model UN, Shakespeare workshops, etc.
- Become source of information regarding the application of high school placement tests, middle school classes for high school credit, etc.
Fund Sourcing
- Finding funding sources, i.e. DonorsChoose, grants, etc., that will provide extra financial support to programs and ideas requested by middle school teachers.
- Assist in finding funding sources and ways to financially support the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C.
8th Grade Graduation
Assist the teachers and staff to host the 8th grade graduation.
- Inform parents of costs associated with graduation, i.e. caps & gowns, pictures, assembly and luncheon.
- Select and reserve luncheon site; arrange cap & gown measurement date with chosen provider; etc.
- Maintain open communication with 8th grade teachers and parents to ensure successful preparation.
- Recruit parents of students not in 8th grade to volunteer as ushers on graduation day and to assist with other tasks.
Communications
- Create a SNUG website where families of middle school students can view:
- A list of SNUG activities (i.e. committees & volunteer opportunities)
- Relevant information presented by SNUG (i.e. fundraising initiatives; selective enrollment information; etc.)
- Create fliers to publicize SNUG events and monthly meetings.
- Facilitate communication between SNUG, middle school teachers, middle school families and the Skinner North administration via email or verbally regarding progress made on projects and activities.
- Continue to discuss and develop methods to improve communication between SNUG, teachers, middle school families, the school community and administration.
Service Learning
- Explore, research, plan and execute service learning opportunities geared toward middle school age group, working with SN teachers and staff to potentially tie activities into existing curricula.
- Explore, research, plan and execute partnerships with non-profit service organizations.
